Our Magical Ingredients

Our Magical Ingredients

When it comes to selecting skincare products, ingredients are the most important factor to consider. From creams and serums to cleansers and masks, everything you layer on your skin is absorbed into your body - which is why it’s crucial to understand what exactly you’re putting on. The ingredients label on most high street skincare products consist of numerous lengthy, unrecognisable names. Most of these are synthetic, parabens and silicones which preserve the product rather than offer any real benefits to your skin.

Here at Belenos Skin Botanique, we think that less is more. We handpick all of our wonderful natural ingredients - and keep them minimal, by only using up to ten ingredients in each product. Every powerful ingredient is selected for its unique properties and therapeutic benefits. We wanted to delve deeper into some of our favourite fruit oils, to give you an insight into why we’ve included them in our amazing organic products.

Borage oil

Borage seed oil comes from the beautiful dainty starflower (named after it’s striking bright blue star-shaped flowers). Borage oil is incredibly hydrating and deeply moisturising - which is why we included it in our luxurious Repair Serum. The rich oil is perfect for dry, dull or damaged skin, helping to restore a natural healthy glow.

Borage oil contains the fatty acid GLA - Gamma Linolenic Acid - which works wonders for the skin. GLA is a type of mega-6 fatty acid, which helps to enhance the skin’s natural barrier. It also has powerful anti-inflammatory effects, helping to improve the appearance of conditions like eczema, rosacea and dry red patches.

Hemp oil

Our second wonder ingredient is hemp oil, which contains a myriad of powerful properties. A common misconception is that cannabidiol oil and hemp oil are the same - however, hemp oil is created by cold-pressing hemp seeds, whereas CBD is extracted from the plant.

Hemp oil is lightly moisturising, without being too pore-clogging, heavy or greasy on the surface of your skin, making it ideal for oily skin. Even though this may seem counterintuitive, drying out oily skin causes it to overproduce oil to counteract the dryness - whereas using a light oil like hemp to rehydrate and moisturise then reduces the oil your skin naturally produces. We’ve used powerful hemp oil in our Intensive Elixir, to help lessen conditions like acne and oily spot-prone skin, and to rejuvenate dull fatigued complexions.

Maracuja oil

Another one of our personal favourites is the magical Maracuja oil, derived from the passion flower plant. This emollient flower oil is packed with plenty of benefits - it’s rich in nutrients like essential fatty acids and natural vitamin C, and it helps to boost collagen to plump and invigorate tired skin.

Maracuja oil has a light silky texture, making it easy to apply and incredibly versatile. It’s hydrating properties can be used to help chapped lips, frazzled hair and dry areas like elbows, knees and heels. It’s also the perfect oil to incorporate into your summer skincare regime, as it can help repair skin from environmental stressors and sun damage. Treat yourself to our pure Maracuja Oil or Sea Buckthorn Cream to start reaping it’s amazing benefits.
